Everything we do is a matter of heart, body and soul.
Like so many of us, our founder, Chantelle de Bruyn, began her days with a warm cup of coffee. It was a ritual she loved, but her body began to tell a different story – a narrative of anxiety, restless nights, and a feeling that she was masking fatigue rather than solving it. As a passionate wellness advocate, she knew there had to be a better way.
She refused to believe the choice was between enjoyment and well-being.
Armed with a deep respect for nature’s pharmacy and a culinary curiosity, Chantelle turned to the garden. Her search for a base that was both nutrient-dense and inherently comforting led her to the Cucurbita genus – the humble butternut squash.
Nights turned into experiments. Her kitchen became a lab of love. The goal wasn’t to create a “coffee alternative.” It was to create a new category entirely: a warm, savory, and deeply satisfying beverage that didn’t just avoid harm, but actively did good.
The first successful batch was a revelation – velvety, earthy, and complex. It was a drink that hugged you from the inside out. She knew this was more than a recipe; it was an answer.
cups later
Over a period of two years, we laboured hard to get the perfect cuppa. It was late nights and lots of recipe customisations and formulations. and here we are…

Rooted in our Values, Growing for our Community
We are proudly South African, female-founded, and built on a foundation of more than just profit. We are built on purpose.
Our values are the ingredients in everything we do:
Wellness First: Every decision starts with the question: “Is this truly good for our people and the planet?”
Plant-Based Innovation: We look to nature for solutions, transforming humble vegetables into extraordinary experiences.
Community-Centered: Our success is meaningless if it doesn’t uplift others. We are committed to job creation for women and youth and supporting small-scale agriculture.
Radical Transparency: From our ingredients to our impact, we believe in honesty.
From a humble Jar to a International Movement
That single jar of homemade brew was too good to keep secret. Shared with friends, then with local communities, the response was electric. People were captivated. This was the feeling they’d been missing—a ritual without regret.
What began as a personal mission quickly outgrew the home kitchen. Driven by a shared vision for conscious living, Buttercup Farmhouse was born.
Our journey has been one of heart-led growth:
Community as our Compass: We listened, we adapted, and we grew with our community. Every piece of feedback was a treasure.
A Footprint of Trust: From local farmers’ markets, we earned our place on the shelves of Food Lover’s Market and Walmart across South Africa, proving that a female-founded, plant-powered idea had national appeal.
A Global Whisper becomes a Roar: Today, the world is listening. With potential off-takes from Germany, India and the USA, our little South African brand is poised to take its place on the global stage, championing a new way to nourish.
